We should all be aware of the increasing risk of identity theft, scams and hacking. The likelihood of becoming a victim is increasing by the day. You have one item in your possession that carries all the info a hacker would need to take advantage of you: your cell phone. Your cell phone never leaves your side, and it holds your most important information. Passwords, financial account information, texts, emails and more. It is imperative that you learn how to protect your cell phone from hackers or you could be looking at a world of hurt.
How To Protect Your Phone
- Keep your phone’s operating system up to date. While many of your phone’s updates will include functionality improvements, the main reason we receive so many updates are for security reasons. If you fail to keep your phone updated, you won’t have the newest security features which are designed to keep your information safe.
- Always lock your phone. You should use a 6-digot passcode (at minimum) to unlock your phone. Many new phones have technology which allows you to unlock your phone using Face ID or your fingerprint. You should take advantage of these added security features.
- Set up your phone finding app. Cell phones now have applications included which will allow you to find your phone should it get stolen or lost. Take the time to set up this application. The faster your phone is back in your possession, the less time hackers will have to cause you harm.
- Back up your phone frequently. You should back up your phone to your computer or to the cloud weekly (daily would be even better). Back ups allow you to obtain your information if something happens to your phone.
Cell phones are amazing tools, but they can also be a tool used against you if your information gets compromised. We hope you use these tools to help protect your cell phone from hackers. Use technology to your advantage or someone else will.
